Often what people assume to be strategies are just skinner boxes on opportunity. Mario Party isn't a meritocracy based series (in case chance time didn't give it away). This is why I suspect the minigames to count for the absolute earth. While you can still play Island Tour several times, Star Rush automates things and takes away most player agency in minigames. This is true of several games that don't focus on replay-ability (don't ya just wanna finish dokapon kingdom 4 times over?). The current MP devs seem to see the handheld franchise as something you play once and never again. I think that Star Rush and Island Tour have the same philosophy set interpreted in very different ways. Honestly for me, Island Tour is just an worse version of Wii Party and I really liked both games of the series but especially the Wii U version. Island Tour just had a lot of various ideas with some luck-based minigames here and there while Star Rush put the most uniques & luck-based ideas as 4VS (because they aren't that rewarding) while Boss had the most safe & skill-based ones (since they are the most important ones) not to mention the Coin Chaos minigames that hit or miss but still fun all-around!įor overall content tho, Star Rush beats Island Tour anyday! While Island Tour felt longer to beat, it only has 3 puzzle minigames, an very easy Story Mode and 1 minigame mode while Star Rush had different kinds of bonus modes and 2 new party modes (Coinathlon which is all about skill & Balloon Bash which is the "classic mode" in a way) and it made the game felt so much more complete and puts some variety to the game in a better way than gimmicky IT boards did! If only it had it's own story mode however.īut yes, this is why I prefer Star Rush to Island Tour.

4VS Minigames rewards aren't that rewarding but Boss Minigames are and depending of the boss, it can influence if you will either go for more allies & coins or go straight to the boss to not have an too much huge handicap!įor minigames, while Star Rush could get tedious pretty easily since it's number of minigames was low, I felt like they were more original than Island Tour's and they knew how to handle 4VS & Boss this time around.

While I slightly prefer the 4VS minigame roster of Island Tour, I also strongly disagree.įor the boards, while Island Tour tried to make more unique boards, they are all too relient on luck and you can easily win without winning any of the minigames since not only of the luck, but also because they are way too short, making any luck-based events to be pretty important, especially when there's so much of them! Star Rush however had the smart idea of making simplier but more fair boards, you can choose an longer or smaller board and you have way more strategy-opportunities this time around since you can pretty much go everywhere you want in your turn as long as your dice movement allows it.
